Lets face it, no taxpayer money should be going to develop the waterfront site that is the former home of Georgia-Pacific until the city's finances are in the black, which is years away.
At this point nothing needs to be done other then sell what's there. Sell the use of the property and buildings to Hollywood. That's right, bring up the big boys and let them have at it. The buildings that are left, which of course aren't worth saving, can be used for action movies. Let the directors and producers blow them up for movies, which equates to new money to our area.
The mountains, water and islands are all right here for an action movies. Just think of it, the buildings can be used over and over again with endless possibilities.
But the biggest thing is the money that would be brought into Bellingham. New dollars coming for lodging, food services, security, local extras for the movies. Wow. Put indoor studios right next door at the port property so everything could be shot right at the waterfront, saving the producer a lot of money.
Oh yeah, and it will cost no taxpayer dollars to get it done.
