Ex-mayor endorses in city, county races

Bellingham and Whatcom County face huge issues: protecting Lake Whatcom water quality, managing growth to preserve our character, balancing budgets, redeveloping our waterfront. It's vital to elect people who can get going right away.

Michael Lilliquist is a solid City Council choice. He thinks well. He has put time in on solving our most urgent issues, with a track record as a responsible decision-maker. I urge you to join me in voting for him.

County Council races, too, are the most important we've seen. Carl Weimer, Laurie Caskey-Schreiber, Dan McShane and Ken Mann have made tough decisions in very public settings. They do not see the land gobbling sprawl south of us along Interstate 5 as the right future for Whatcom County. But their opponents have accepted thousands of dollars from mining and development interests. As we shape the future of Whatcom County, let's elect those we can trust to look out for all our interests, not just those of a few.
