Don't be fooled by the ordinary sounding name: Steve Smith, running for Bellingham School Board, Position No. 4, is exceptional.

As an educator at Western Washington University, Steve knows education and economics - an especially important combination as we face difficult budget realities. Steve is smart, pragmatic, and fair. He will bring a thoughtful and progressive approach to the school board; one grounded in experience and a commitment to the unique needs of each student and educator.

When it comes to budget issues, Steve will not take the easy out that I believe his opponent has supported - applying thin cuts across our whole system. Instead, Steve will evaluate all options to ensure the best outcomes for the most students. He will work to ensure that disadvantaged families don't face further setbacks, teachers keep their jobs, and students have a broad array of educational opportunities from which to choose.

Steve approaches problems with a keen intellect, compassion, and a sense of humor. A believer in constant improvement, he won't settle for "good enough." Steve is dedicated to education and knows firsthand the vital role public schools play in our society. Vote for Steve Smith, an exceptional choice.
