We are fortunate for the opportunity to re-elect Carl Weimer, whom I believe is one of the most effective individuals on the Whatcom County Council. He is the rare person whose public and private lives are devoted to building a healthy community.

More than 10 years ago, Carl Weimer launched the RE Store in Bellingham. Every do-it-yourselfer I know buys recycled building materials there. As a result, hundreds of tons of useful materials have been removed from the waste stream.

When the pipeline ruptured causing a raging fire killing three youths and threatening Bellingham's business district, everyone was shocked and alarmed. However, one person stepped forward to reduce chances of another tragedy. Carl Weimer helped organize the Pipeline Safety Trust. Due to his initiative, higher safety and inspection standards are required of pipeline operators at the state and national levels.

While on the council he has shown that he cares about the entire county. He has effectively dealt with farming and land use issues in eastern Whatcom County as well as Lummi Island ferry problems.

A vote for Carl Weimer is a vote for demonstrated leadership which we desperately need in this time of shrinking public funds and rising unemployment.
