In times like these when citizens have ample reason to be cynical about politics, it is especially gratifying to have the opportunity to vote for a candidate who has brought to public office all of the qualities we want in a elected official; that candidate is Carl Weimer.

Carl has a proven record of dedication to public service, independence from special interests, openness to all points of view, fiscal responsibility, ready availability to constituents, the wisdom of experience, and an abiding commitment to serve the entire community.

As a Lummi Island resident, I am grateful to Carl for establishing an ongoing Internet conversation with our community, for spending long hours helping to reduce proposed ferry fare increases, and for being a tireless advocate for scuttling the proposed "new ferry" long championed by his opponent and her building industry contributors, which would have cost county taxpayers $18 million, I believe for worse service and higher fares.

In short, Carl is a once-in-a-blue-moon public servant who has proven himself a tireless champion for sane and balanced policy and is a valuable asset to our community. He has earned our gratitude and respect, and he has earned our votes.
