In the late 1990's, even though phosphates were not restricted in the watershed, there was no significant issue regarding algae in Lake Whatcom for the simple reason that the lake was constantly flushed, due to the amount of water used daily by Georgia-Pacific Corp.

Once G-P was run out of Bellingham, I noted during overflights of the lake that it was slowly transitioning from blue to green.

It seems obvious that the solution requires that more water be drawn from the lake, not less. If that means repairing the facility that replenishes the lake from the Nooksack River, so be it. Bellinghamsters don't reside in the Lower Sonoran Desert. They live in the Evergreen State and should not be subjected to a watering ban that could destroy their investment in landscaping while authorities fail to undertake obvious measures to assure a restoration of health to the lake.
