The body of a man reported missing after he was swept into the Nooksack River June 14 likely has been found, according to the Whatcom County Sheriff's Office.

Sheriff Bill Elfo said a resident found the body in the river near Deming Monday, July 6.

Elfo said investigators believe it's the body of Michael Schulte, 38, who had been living underneath the U.S. Bridge on Highway 9.

Schulte was swept into the river while trying to cross the north fork the night of June 14, according to the Sheriff's Office.

Elfo said the physical description and clothing match that of Schulte.

Whatcom County Medical Examiner Gary Goldfogel was still trying to confirm the man's identity, Elfo said. Goldfogel did not return calls Friday.
