Motorcyclist identified in fatal crash on South Bay Drive

The motorcyclist killed in a crash on the 3300 block of South Bay Drive Tuesday evening, April 7, has been indentified as 44-year-old Matthew Jones of Everson.

Jones was rounding a curve and was in the road's southbound lane when he crashed his 2006 Yamaha motorcycle head-on into a parked pickup truck about 6 p.m., said Sgt. Steve Gatterman of the Whatcom County Sheriff's Office.

He was unconscious when medics with Whatcom County Fire District No. 18 arrived shortly after the crash. Medics performed continuous CPR on Jones, but were unable to revive him.

Gatterman was still investigating the cause of the crash Tuesday evening, but said speed or a medical problem could have played a role.
