This year's Apple Cup, which pits a winless University of Washington football team against 1-10 Washington State, could be one of the biggest jokes in the storied history of the rivalry.

To commemorate the occasion, the Tri-City Herald newspaper, a sister publication to The Bellingham Herald, asked readers to submit their own jokes about the two schools. Here is a sample:

What's the difference between Cougars and Cheerios?

Cheerios belong in a bowl.

What does a Husky call a Cougar after graduation?

Boss.

Why did the Wazzu grad cover her ears?

She was trying to hold in a thought.

Some Huskies were trying to scare the Cougar football team before the game and threw firecrackers into the locker room windows.

The Cougars lit them and threw them back.
