A motorcyclist died after suffering an apparent medical emergency, then losing control of his motorcycle on Mount Baker Highway about 3 p.m. Friday, Sept. 26.
Joe M. Ackerson, 62, of Deming, was riding west on a 2006 Kawasaki motorcycle and had just crossed over the Nooksack River.
Witnesses told the Washington State Patrol the rider slumped forward and his feet fell off the pegs before the bike went off the road to the right. The motorcycle then struck a guardrail, but investigators were unsure whether Ackerson was still on the bike when it hit.
Ackerson, who had been wearing a helmet, was pronounced dead at the scene. He did not appear to be speeding or under the influence of drugs or alcohol, said WSP Sgt. Jason Armstrong.
The WSP was still investigating the crash Friday evening.
