Coach: Rick Neuheisel, second season (7-13 record). He is 73-43 in 10 seasons as a coach, including a 33-16 mark in his four seasons at the UW (1999-2002).

Last season: 4-8, 3-6 in the Pac-10.

Against the Huskies: UCLA leads, 37-29-2, and is riding a two-game winning streak, including last season’s 27-7 win in Seattle. UW’s last win in the Rose Bowl came in 1995.

Washington connections: Besides Neuheisel, UCLA assistants with past Huskies’ ties include secondary coach Tim Hundley (1998-2003), receivers coach Reggie Moore (2003) and running backs coach Wayne Moses (1997-2000). ... Defensive tackle Justin Mann is from Woodinville, and walk-on kicker Madison Poole is from Blanchet High.

Scouting report: The Bruins have Neuheisel and heralded offensive coordinator Norm Chow as their brain trust to move the ball. So what have they produced? A mess. The Bruins ranked ninth in most offensive categories in the conference, including scoring average (19.9 ppg), passing offense (203.9) and rushing offense (102.0). Neuheisel is trying to sort out a quarterback situation between freshmen Kevin Prince and Richard Brehaut. It’s wasting the efforts of a talented defense, led by DT Brian Price (201/2 tackles for loss in past 14 games), LB Reggie Carter and S Rahim Moore (seven interceptions).

Did you know: UCLA is wearing its all sky-blue throwback jerseys Saturday to honor 1967 Heisman Trophy winner Gary Beban, the team’s honorary captain.
