closeWanted: Hikers to teach others about the natural and cultural history of parts of the Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest, and ways to tread lightly to protect its alpine beauty.
The Mountain Stewards program is looking for volunteers to educate day hikers, backpackers and climbers on the three busiest trails in the Mt. Baker Ranger District — Heliotrope Ridge, Heather Meadows and Park Butte/Railroad Grade.
Selected volunteers will be trained in low-impact recreation, natural and cultural history of the region, and wilderness ethics. Volunteers must attend trainings on July 14 and 21. A third optional training is set for Aug. 11 for Heather Meadows volunteers.
Participants must be at least 18 years old, have some experience with outdoor recreation, be able to attend the training sessions, and help out on three weekend days between July 27 and Sept. 9. Applications must be returned by July 10.
