PREP SPORTS: Spring sports all-state teams released

The spring sports all-state teams for baseball, soccer and softball were announced on Friday, June 26, and Whatcom County athletes were well represented.

Leading the way were all-state first-team selections Caden Sowers and Casey Locker of Ferndale, and Class 2A boys' soccer coach of the year Joe McAuliffe from Squalicum.

Sowers was named to the Class 3A boys' soccer all-state first team after being named the Northwest Conference's Most Valuable Player and leading the league with 24 goals.

Locker earned Class 3A all-state baseball first team honors as a pitcher after compiling a 6-3 record with a 2.61 ERA and 43 strikeouts. He was also the conference's most valuable player.

McAuliffe took the top award for coaching after leading the Storm to a Class 2A state title this season.

Several others from Whatcom County also earned second team or honorable mention all-state recognition.

In soccer Squalicum's Connor Shipman and Brad Klees and Sehome's Cole McIlvaine earned Class 2A second team nods. Lynden's Andrew Blair, Sehome's Andrew Mihovilovich, and Bellingham's Dylan Langie made the Class 2A honorable mention list. Meridian's Dakota Huntley made the Class 1A honorable mention list.

In baseball, Ferndale's Spencer Hannah was a Class 3A second team outfield pick. In Class 2A, Sehome's John Albert, Tenny Pitsch, Anthony Pitsch and Squalicum's Daniel Herda all made the honorable mention list. Joining them was Meridian's Zach Slesk, who made the Class 1A honorable mention list.

In softball Nooksack Valley's Erika Ramstead was a Class 1A second team selection at pitcher and teammate Joanne Tevelde was an honorable mention pick in the outfield. Sehome's Austin Wilkerson received an honorable mention nod at catcher in Class 2A.
