PREP BOYS' SOCCER: Sowers named the NWC Player of the Year

Ferndale junior Caden Sowers was selected the 2009 All-Northwest Conference Boys' Soccer Player of the Year.

Golden Eagles' coach Scott Browne was also tapped as the co-coach of the year, along with Mount Vernon's Tony Dabbs.

Also representing Ferndale as a first-teamer is Chris Reimer at goalkeeper.

Squalicum senior Connor Shipman was named a first-team forward for the third straight year. Shipman helped lead the Storm to the Class 2A state title last weekend. Mount Vernon's David Navarro, Sehome's Nino Tursic and Lynden's Andrew Blair were also named first-team forwards.

Mount Vernon's Ivan Ocampo and Ricky Rodarte were both chosen as first team defenders, as was Andrew Furney of Burlington-Edison, Sehome's Cole McIlvaine and Bellingham's Dylan Langei.

Squalicum senior Brad Klees was selected to the first team as a midfielder. Also chosen were Mount Vernon's Rene Caro and Cesar Marin, Sehome's Andy Mihovilovich and Meridian's Izzy Ryan.
