Several state high school volleyball tournaments, including the Class 3A and 2A events, will be played a week later than planned this season due to a scheduling conflict at the host venue.
The Class 3A state tournament will begin on Thursday, Nov. 20, while the Class 4A and 2A tourney's will start on Friday, Nov. 21, this year, the WIAA announced on Monday, Aug 4.
The tournaments had been scheduled to start on Thursday, Nov. 13, but the Toyota Center in Kennewick is unavailable on Nov. 14, because a comedy show has been slated for that night.
The Class 1A, 1B, and 2B, tournaments will still be played in Yakima beginning Nov. 13.
The move was one of several approved by the WIAA at a recent Executive Board Meeting. Other amendments included changing the first and second rounds of the state soccer tournaments to a regional format, and adjusting the state football bracket to reduce travel costs.
The WIAA has also decided that its staff will decide the locations of the state football semifinal contests this season.
Other decisions included awarding the Class 1A softball tournament to the TRAC Complex in Pasco and holding the state golf tournament on May 27 and May 28.
