The Sehome girls' soccer team earned its way into the Class 2A Northwest District Tournament title game with a 1-0 semifinal victory over Lakewood on Tuesday, Nov. 3, at Cedarcrest High School.

Madison Heilmann scored in the 60th minute off an assist by Jessica Bertucci as one of the Mariners' 18 shots on goal hit home.

"We dominated the play for the most part," Sehome coach Andria Fountain said in a phone interview. "They kind of packed in the defense on us and their goalie did a good job."

Sehome's Rachel Albert earned the shutout in goal with two saves but the Mariners defense kept her pretty safe as Lakewood only had three shots on goal.

The Mariners (17-1) now face Archbishop Murphy, a 2-0 winner over Cedarcrest in the other semifinal, in the district title game at 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, at Cedarcrest.

ATM beat Sehome 3-0 in a quarterfinal during the Class 2A state tournament last year.

The game preceded the Mariners semifinal and Fountain said she got a look at Wildcats.

"I thought they were a good team; I think we will be a lot more competitive with them this time," Fountain said. "They have a lot of individual skill on their team, and they look like they are a good team but I don't know if they are the caliber they were last year."

The Mariners have already made the state tournament as the top four teams from the district tournament earned a berth.
