PREP BOYS' CROSS COUNTRY: Bear Don't Walk, Pioneers run well at tri-district meet

Oliver Bear Don't Walk and the Nooksack Valley boys' cross country team had high finishes at the Class 1A Tri-District Meet on Saturday, Oct. 31, at Lakewood.

Bear Don't Walk finished second overall in 16 minutes, 2.3 seconds and the Pioneers took second overall as a team to advance to the Class 1A State Championships in Pasco next week.

Nooksack Valley finished with 99 points to place second behind team winner Port Townsend (93 points).

Also heading to state for the Pioneers are Mitch Beard (18th, 17:23.9), Jarrod Birkett (24th, 17:30.0), Connor Jackson (25th, 17:30.4) and Forrest Crouse (30th, 17:37).

The Meridian and Lynden Christian teams also placed in the top six to advance to state. Meridian placed fourth with 130 points while Lynden Christian was fifth with 131 points.

Leading the Trojans was Sam Ryan with an eighth-place finish (17:00.0). Also running a state-qualifying time was Evan Lee (17th, 17:22.7).

Leading the Lyncs was Jacob Hollander who placed sixth in 16:52.26. Other top times for Lynden Christian were Chris VandenBos (26th, 17:31.4) and Zach Crenshaw (27th, 17:31.9).
