HANNAH BELANGER
School: Meridian
Sport: Soccer
Year: Sophomore
Position: Forward
What she did: Belanger scored three goals in two Class 1A Northwest District Tournament games, helping the Trojans to wins in both and a trip to next week's 1A tri-district tournament. She scored both goals in a 2-0 victory over Coupeville in the first round of the tournament on Wednesday, Oct. 28, before scoring an equalizing goal in Meridian's 3-1 semifinal victory over Friday Harbor on Thursday, Oct. 29. She entered Saturday's district championship game with 15 goals this season.
Coach's quote: "Hannah has a great nose for the goal and is a great finisher. When she gets hot, she can score in bunches ... and she's getting hot at the right time." - Aaron Jacoby
MATT GOEBEL AND MYLES WEST
School: Sehome
Sport: Tennis
Year: Both are juniors
Event: Doubles
What they did: Goebel and West beat Bellingham's Kyle Buckham and Andrew Troutman in three sets, 6-3, 2-6, 6-2, to claim the Class 2A Northwest District doubles championship and the district's top seed to May's 2A state tournament. With the win, the duo also completed a perfect fall season, as they will enter state with a 17-0 record playing together.
Coach's quote: "As a new doubles team this year I was surprised to see how much they have accomplished. They went undefeated in the regular season before claiming the district title. Myles has always been a singles player, but had to play doubles this year to earn a spot as a regular. Matt lost his partner to graduation from last year's state team, so it was a perfect fit." - Bonna Giller
