THE BELLINGHAM HERALD
The Mount Vernon girls' swim team swept all 11 events on Thursday, Oct. 22, as it defeated Lynden in a Northwest Conference meet 114-56.
Lynden (4-7, NWC 4-4) was led by Jasmine Umbaugh but suffered from standout Megan Niemela absent from illness. Umbaugh swam to a season best in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1 minute 11.71 seconds.
"I had my state swimmer out with the flu, but even if we would have been healthy, Mount Vernon's a strong team and would have taken us anyway," Lynden coach Linda Bode said in a phone interview. "We had two Megan and Michelle Brunks out last week and that affects us. It's our goal to get them all healthy."
