Rain once again hampered the Class 2A Northwest District Boys’ Tennis Tournament on Wednesday, Oct. 21, forcing the second day of the tournament to be pushed back a day.

Semifinal and consolation action will resume at noon Thursday, Oct. 22, at Sehome High School. The championship and third-place matches were also shuffled back one day, and will now start at noon on Friday, Oct. 23.

Play-in matches also had to be rescheduled from Saturday, Oct. 17, after heavy weekend rains.

Sehome leads the way with four entries still alive in the brackets — all four in the semifinals and one win away from qualifying for the state tournament. Will Topp and Evan Madill each face opponents from South Whidbey in the semifinals, while the Mariners’ Matt Goebel and Myles West face a team from Burlington-Edison in one doubles semifinal and William Giller and Bjorn Thorpe face Belling-ham’s Andrew Troutman and Kyle Buckham on the other side of the bracket.

In addition to Buckham and Troutman, the Red Raiders have Elias Troutman and Reed Welch alive in the doubles consolation play and Ethan McKell in the singles consolation bracket.

Lynden has Will VanderVeen still playing in singles consolation and Briley Benner and Andrew Blair in the doubles draw. Benner and Blair will face Squalicum’s lone remaining entry — Ian Krause and Greyson Herdman — in the first round of the consolation bracket.

CLASS 3A TOURNAMENT POSTPONED

The second day of the Class 3A Northwest Conference Boys’ Tennis Tournament at Mount Vernon has also been postponed a day by the rain. The tournament is now scheduled to resume at noon Thursday, Oct. 22.

Ferndale singles players Tanner Hanson and Ryan Carlson will meet in the singles championship match, while teammates Erik Arn-sten and Tyler Erickson are still playing in the doubles consolation bracket.
