Devon Kollmyer scored two first-half goals to help the Lynden girls' soccer team to a 3-0 Northwest Conference victory over visiting Nooksack Valley on Thursday, Oct. 15. Kollmyer scored in the 10th and 32 minutes to give the Lions a quick 2-0 lead, before Liz Webb added the final score in the 44th minute.

"Our little freshman was making it happen (Thursday) night," Lynden coach Joe Gonzalez said in a phone interview. "We were very happy with her play."

The one area Gonzalez would like to see his team improve upon, though, is finishing. Lynden (7-6, 5-5 NWC) had 27 shots in the game, and Nooksack Valley goalie Heidi Kott came up with 18 saves. Amanda Tapia needed to make only one to record the shutout over the Pioneers (1-10, 0-10).

With the win, Lynden moved into a tie with Anacortes for the fifth and final Class 2A berth into the postseason. The Seahawks need a shootout to beat Sedro-Woolley on Thursday, meaning they now have 15 points, just like the Lions. Anacortes would hold the tiebreaker, based on their Sept. 17 win over Lynden, but each team has three games left in the regular season.

"There's a lot of things that can happen in that race still," Gonzalez said. "We're just hoping to get a chance to get to the dance floor."
