PREP GIRLS' CROSS COUNTRY: Meridian finishes 13th at North County Invite

Meridian was the top finishing Whatcom County girls' cross country program at the North County Invite on Thursday, Oct. 15, at the Cedarcrest Golf Course, as Stanwood ended up claiming the team title.

The Trojans placed 13th in the 20-team meet and were led by a 12th-place performance by Jayna Edmonds in 21 minutes, 45.67 seconds in the freshman race. Jill Crandall (22:24.36) took 21st in the junior race, Jessica Hofbauer (22:28.15) was 25th in the senior race and Lauren Kilday (25:24.45) finished 42nd in the sophomore race for Meridian.

Rachel Hatcher's 14th-place finish in the freshman race in 22:02.63 led the Mountaineers to a 15th-place team finish. Krity Pilat (24:33.60) was 27th in the junior race for the Mountaineers, while Ashley Fullner (23:29.28) and Deanna Bozzo (22:59.55) finished 29th in the sophomore and senior races, respectively.

Lynden got a pair of top-15 finishes in the senior race from Karla Witte (20:24.13, 11th) and Hannah VanZanten (20:50.52, 13th) and finished 16th overall. The Lions also received a 32nd-place performance from Amber Stokes (23:36.81) in the sophomore race, a 44th-place finish from Kaitlyn Brown (27:24.73) in the freshman race and a 51st-place run from Ashlie Olson (28:16.06) in the junior race.

Megan Morrison placed seventh in the junior race with a time of 20:05.43 to help Ferndale finish 17th overall. The Golden Eagles also got an 11th-place performance from Makalee Latta (21:45.22) in the freshman race, a 40th-place finish from Elysee Ledford (24:17.81) in the senior race and a 45th-place run from Sabrina Delzell (25:47.84) in the sophomore race.
