Violinist Sarah Chang, 28, born in Philadelphia to Korean parents, debuted with the New York Philharmonic at age 8. She's appeared with the London Philharmonic, the Philadelphia Orchestra and Amsterdam's Royal Concertgebouw.
She'll play the Brahms Violin Concerto with Whatcom Symphony Orchestra at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 8, at Mount Baker Theatre, 104 N. Commercial St. Roger Briggs conducts. The program also includes Mozart's Overture to "The Marriage of Figaro" and Beethoven's Seventh Symphony.
A pre-concert lecture, free to ticketholders, will be presented by Ed Rutschman at 2 p.m. in the theater's Encore Room.

ARTISTS DOWNTOWN
The Downtown Bellingham Partnership invites the community to the monthly, self-guided Downtown Art Walk from 6 to 10 p.m. Friday, Nov. 6.
Among the highlights: a photography show at Allied Arts of Whatcom County, featuring the works of seven artists; a fundraising auction at Blue Horse Gallery, and a poetry reading at Mindport Exhibits.

MUSICAL SALUTE TO VETERANS
The Bellingham chapter of the Vietnam Veterans of America and other local organizations present the fifth annual event honoring veterans in Whatcom County at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 6, at Christ the King Community Church, 4173 Meridian St., next to Cost Cutter in Cordata Place.
This year's honorees are Frank Cordero, Jim Pace, James Stansell, Norm Smith and Kendal Anderson. Performers include the Mount Baker Toppers barbershop chorus, the Harmony Northwest Chorus, the Saltwater Octet, the Pakawalups and the New Originals. Mark Kuntz directs the program.

THINKING ABOUT SNOW
Sixty years ago, a Hollywood-born young man whose hobbies were skiing, surfing and photography decided to film some of his outdoor escapes with his friends.
Since 1949, Warren Miller's feature film company has been producing one ski film each year. Miller retired from filmmaking in 2004 and lives in the San Juan islands.
Now owned by Time, Inc., the company's production this year is "Dynasty," and it screens twice at Mount Baker Theatre, 104 N. Commercial St., on Friday, Nov. 6 - at 6:30 and 9:30 p.m.

OLÉ! FLAMENCO AT WWU
Seville-born flamenco dance-master Isabel Lopez and her company present an evening of dance and music at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, at Western Washington University's Performing Arts Center Concert Hall.
She's performed throughout Europe, as well as in Tokyo, Puerto Rico and the United States. The concert is sponsored by the Spanish Ministry of Culture and the Spanish Honorary Consulate in Seattle.
