The deadline is near for the Ferndale Arts Commission’s call to artists for the fourth annual Art in the Park, to be held 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 12, and noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 13, in Pioneer Pavilion Community Center, next to Pioneer Park in Ferndale.
The free event will feature visual and performing artists, live music, kids’ art activities, and food. Artists will show and sell their work inside the community center.
The commission’s call is open to all artists in Washington and includes all types of art media. Deadline to apply is June 17. For the application form and details, go to cityofferndale.org/arts.php.
Farmers markets springing up around the county

The Lummi Island Saturday Market begins its season May 30 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the field next to the Islander Grocery and Sauseburger Stand on South Nugent Road. The market is a community gathering for island arts and crafts, food and music. The market runs every Saturday through Sept. 5.
To reach the market, take the Whatcom Chief from Gooseberry Point, then walk or drive one block south of the ferry dock. Details: 360-380-0979, http://lummi-island.com.
The Wednesday Market opens June 3 and runs from noon to 5 p.m. every Wednesday through Sept. 23 at Fairhaven Village Green, 10th Street at Mill Avenue.
Fourteen farmers will bring fresh produce, plants, chicken, salmon sausages, mushrooms, flowers and more to the market, and screen-printed clothing, jewelry, fine art and other items will be available from vendors.
The market also has live music from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. Chad Petersen will kick things off musically on opening day. Other market performers will be Amber Darland, Chuck Dingee, Jean Mann, the Loofahs, and Quickdraw String Band.
The Bellingham Farmers Market continues from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays through Dec. 19 at Depot Market Square, at Railroad Avenue at Maple Street. The last Saturday of each month is Kids’ Vending Day.

The Ferndale Public Market opens June 7 from 2 to 7 p.m. at 2007 Cherry St., near Pioneer Park. The market continues through Oct. 10.
The Lynden Farmers Market runs from noon to 5 p.m Thursdays, June 18 through Oct. 29, at 324 Front St., across from Jansen Art Center and one block south of Lynden Library.
