Professional make-up artist Julie Marantette will be teaching "DIY Alien Monsters," for students aged 9-13, a program inspired by the Whatcom Museum's exhibit "The Art of Genre: Posters from Hollywood's Golden Age," from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 9 at the museum's Lightcatcher galleries, 250 Flora St.
Cost is $20, including materials, and the deadline for registration is Thursday, Aug. 7.
Using old sci-fi and horror film posters for inspiration, young artists attending this workshop watch Marantette
turn her assistant into an alien monster. Students will then transform themselves into imaginative characters or monsters. Photos of participants will display in the museum's Lookout Landing and on-screen prior to the next science fiction film at Pickford Film Center. Participants receive a pass to the next sci-fi film at Pickford.
