Among REI's free outdoors-oriented classes next month are a pair of demonstrations that are designed to appeal to beginning campers.
Both are in early August, leaving plenty of time to put your skills to practical use with a late-summer outing. Advance registration is required, but many spots remained this week. To register, go to rei.com/stores/bellingham.html or call 360-647-8955.
REI is at 400 36th St. in the Sehome Village shopping center.
