Bellingham Technical College’s 14th annual Welding Rodeo, which takes place from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Saturday, May 15-16, at the college, 3028 Lindbergh Ave., is themed “Fire and Ice” this year. Competitors in the sculpture challenge have the two days to create a piece that incorporates both elements.
The competition challenges teams of welders to create beautiful sculptures out of piles of metal scraps, with the finished creations auctioned off to raise money for student scholarships. The event also includes a skills challenge in which students, amateurs and professionals test their skills with metal.
In addition to the rodeo, the weekend includes a Washington State Chefs Association culinary competition, to run Saturday and Sunday in BTC’s kitchens.
Admission is free. Details: 360-752-8700, weldingrodeo.com.
