John Statz recorded his new album, “Tulsa,” with an all-star band in the middle of a Vermont ice storm, and even though the electricity went out for 10 minutes, the album was completed and is set for release this March.
Statz performs with his band at 9:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 28, at the Green Frog, 1015 N. State St.
After years of touring everywhere, from Eastern Europe to Mexico, the Wisconsinite who now lives in Colorado, where he fell in with fellow Midwesterner Jeffrey Foucault, an acclaimed songwriter and veteran of the Americana circuit. A fan of Statz’s last album, 2012’s “Old Fashioned,” Foucault offered to produce his next record while they were on tour together in Colorado.
The resulting “Tulsa” is blend of Americana and folk, accompanied by bandmates Billy Conway on drums, Mark Spencer on electric guitars and pedal steel, Jeremy Moses Curtis on bass, Caitlin Canty singing harmonies, Matt Lorenz on fiddle, and Foucault on guitars and vocals.
