The Midnight Mystery Players presents its fifth performance of “A Christmas Carol,” the third featuring Bob Simmons in the role of Scrooge, at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 20, at Mount Baker Theatre’s Encore Room, 104 N. Commercial St.
This year the performance is a special salute to Lionel Barrymore, who played Dickens’ skinflint on the radio from 1938 to 1954. When he missed a performance due to the death of his wife, Lionel was replaced by John, his brother. Other guest Scrooges were Orson Welles, Edmund Gwen and Basil Rathbone.
The Honeybees will lead Christmas carols in the break; then the Players will perform “Dancing Dan’s Christmas,” a Damon Runyon Theater play adapted from the master storyteller’s short story shortly after he died in 1946. The story is narrated by Robert Muzzy. Stan Claussen directs.
Tickets are $5 at the door.
