Well-known local birder and educator Dick McNeely shares tips on how to find birds in the wild and in your backyard, at 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 21, at Whatcom Museum's Syre Education Center, 201 Prospect St.
During the free event, people will learn about the best local birding places and what they can do to enhance their chances of seeing birds. People will meet at the center, then take a short bird walk with McNeely down nearby Whatcom Creek, and then back to see the museum's collection of more than 500 birds.
At 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 22, a workshop at the center will teach people how to sketch birds. The workshop includes a birding sketchbook to take home. The workshop costs $13, which includes materials. Register at 360-778-8960 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
Also, Audubon Society members will be at the center from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 24, and Aug. 31 to answer people's questions about birds.
