Fathers and their daughters ages 17 and younger are invited to a special dance from 5-9 p.m. Tuesday at the Pioneer Park Dance Barn in Ferndale. There will be ice cream for all dads and daughters and a DJ playing music for a fun night of dancing and fellowship.

The 56th annual Anacortes Arts Festival runs Friday through Sunday in downtown Anacortes, with 10 blocks of booth artisans from around the country, three stages with live music, and a regional fine art exhibition. Also included is a working studios area that includes sand sculpting and chainsaw carving.

Pacific Northwest synth-folk quartet Kuinka (formerly Rabbit Wilde) perform from its recent EP release, “Stay Up Late,” as well as its signature rootsy, foot-tapping, hand-clapping tunes from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Maritime Heritage Park, 500 W. Holly St. The band also performs at 6 p.m. Aug. 12 in Ferndale’s Pioneer Park in the Music in the Park series, as part of the City of Ferndale’s “Summer of Fun,” recreational activities in Ferndale’s parks.

Set in the American heartland during the 1930’s, Aaron Copland’s opera “The Tender Land” explores controversial issues that remain relevant to this day, presented by the Seattle Opera Academy and the Marrowstone Music Festival, at 7:30 p.m. Friday and 2 p.m. Saturday at Western Washington University’s Performing Arts Center.

Swing Connection and other musical friends will welcome home saxophonist Thomas Harris as a guest artist with Sonja Lee’s combo and the Swing Connection big band from 2-4 p.m. Sunday at the Fairhaven Village Green, 1207 10th St. Harris has been singing and directing the Queen Mary 2 cruise ship’s house band after performing several years on cruise ships.
