BELLINGHAM - City Council members Stan Snapp and Gene Knutson are out of the gate first announcing that they'll see re-election.
Snapp filed his paperwork to the state Public Disclosure Commission on March 27 and said he waited to make an announcement until after contacting his past supporters.
Snapp, 68, was first elected in 2007 to fulfill the remaining two years of Councilwoman Joan Beardsley's term. She died in 2007 after a battle with cancer. A well-known neighborhood and organization volunteer, he defeated challenger Damon Gray in the general election, 65.2 percent to 34.8 percent.
Meanwhile, Knutson said Tuesday, April 7, that he also has filed his candidate paperwork to seek a fifth term on the council.
Knutson, 54, was first elected in 1994 and has served for years on the city's Finance & Personnel Committee. He said he wants to use that experience to help with the city's budget problems.
He also has been a vocal proponent of civic services for residents, like the Civic Field renovation, the Depot Market Square project, and working with the Boys and Girls Club towards the completion of their new building.
