Once considered a high-risk neighborhood, the Roosevelt area is making big strides with a lower crime rate, a new Boys & Girls Club, improved parks, and plans for a community center.
It’s a compact neighborhood, split by Alabama Street, a busy east-west arterial. On the north side are some newer housing developments and small houses on small lots. South of Alabama are apartment complexes and more small homes.

Roosevelt Park and the Railroad Trail offer places to unwind, with the trail looping all the way to Whatcom Falls Park.
HISTORY
Eureka Grade School was built in 1902 on Woburn Street between Alabama and Texas streets. The school’s name was changed to Roosevelt in 1927-28 to honor former President Theodore Roosevelt. T
he current Roosevelt Elementary School was built in 1972 at 2900 Yew St.
