St. Francis of Bellingham has made a donation of $500 to the Bellingham Food Bank in the name of clinics and doctors who refer patients to the facility.
"Our mission statement is 'To enhance the life of every person we serve,'" said St. Francis Administrator Tonja Myers. "We feel that it encompasses people in our community who are facing difficult times due to the economy."
St. Francis has traditionally given holiday gift baskets to those who refer clients, but decided that supporting the Food Bank would be a more appropriate gesture given the recessionary times.
Food Bank Executive Director Mike Cohen expressed appreciation for the donation.
"Bellingham Food Bank makes its budget each year thanks to small checks from $25 to $50, so a $500 check is really significant," Cohen said.
St. Francis of Bellingham offers long-term and short-term nursing and rehabilitation, childcare, and outpatient rehabilitation in Northwest Washington. For details, visit www.stfrancisofbellingham.com.
