Here is a roundup of recent development proposals and decisions, and upcoming development-related meetings:

BELLINGHAM

The Bellingham Planning Commission will hold a hearing on a proposal to rezone former state Department of Transportation land along Sunset Avenue for higher density housing. The commission will consider a site-specific rezone to change the zoning from single-family housing with a mix of low- and medium-density to entirely single-family housing with medium density and a mix of housing types. The property is south of Sunset Drive and just east of St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Church. The hearing will be at 7 p.m. Oct. 9 in City Council chambers, 210 Lottie St.

FERNDALE

The Ferndale Planning Commission will hold a public hearing to consider changes to city law regarding nonconforming structures and uses. Discussion will cover the extent in which a nonconforming structure can be rebuilt, repaired and maintained. The public hearing is scheduled for 7 p.m. Sept. 24 in City Hall Annex, 5694 Second Ave.

The city of Ferndale decided that building three commercial buildings at 6056 Portal Way, totaling about 12,811 square feet are unlikely to have a significant negative environmental impact if certain steps are taken. The project, by Crown Court LLC, also involves filling about 12,349 square feet of onsite wetlands, to be mitigated according to city law. Comments can be sent to Ryan Morrison, associate planner, P.O. Box 936, Ferndale, WA 98248 by Sept. 24.
