Haggen Food & Pharmacy stores and its customers recently combined to donate more than $150,000 to a pair of nonprofit organizations in the state.

The Greater Washington Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society is receiving $92,619. The money came from Haggen employees who participated in the annual MS Walk, customer donations and corporate matches.

The donations pay for chapter programs for Washington residents with MS and their families, as well as for research into new treatments and a cure. For more information, visit www.nationalms society.org/was.

Haggen Inc. is also donating $57,740 to Children’s Hospital & Regional Medical Center in Seattle in support of its Uncompensated Care Fund, enabling children to receive medical care regardless of their family’s ability to pay. The money was donated by customers who purchased paper balloons, available in June for a donation of $1 apiece, at Haggen and TOP Food & Drug stores in Washington.

Founded in 1907, Children’s Hospital serves as the pediatric referral center for Washington, Alaska, Idaho and Montana. Last year, Children’s Hospital provided $65.4 million in financial assistance to families of patients. For more information about Children’s Hospital, visit www.seattlechildrens.org.

Haggen has 33 supermarkets in Washington and Oregon. More information about the company can be found at www.haggen.com.
