Habitat for Humanity in Whatcom County is partnering with General Growth Properties, Bellis Fair mall and the Bellingham RE Store to recycle materials from transitioning stores in the mall to benefit Habitat’s local self-help home efforts for low-income families.

Rather than have store fixtures and furnishings sent to a landfill, Bellis Fair will donate these materials to Habitat for Humanity, which in turn consigns these reusable goods to the RE Store for resale locally.

“It is a win-win-win situation for the environment, businesses and low-income families partnering with Habitat to build their own simple, decent, affordable home with local volunteers and supporters,” said Habitat’s Whatcom County executive director John Shorthill.

To donate leftover or reusable building materials and other construction items, call 715-9170 to arrange pickup.
