The Community Food Co-op recently announced its selections for the 2008 Community Shopping Day Program.
Each year the co-op accepts applications from groups that serve the community and align with the co-op’s values, including building community, education and promoting a sustainable economy. The co-op then selects 12 organizations and designates a shopping day for each of them.
Each organization receives 2 percent of the total sales for its scheduled day. The average “shopping day” donation was $1,100 in 2007.
The 2008 schedule: Jan. 19, Whatcom Human Rights Task Force; Feb. 16, Re Use Works; March 15, Food Bank Farm; April 19, Whatcom Watch; May 17, Whatcom Farm Friends; June 21, Futurewise; July 19, RE-Sources for Sustainable Communities; Aug. 16, Small Potatoes Gleaning Project; Sept. 20, Boys & Girls Club of Whatcom County; Oct. 18, Washington Sustainable Food & Farming Network; Nov. 15, Bellingham Food Bank; Dec. 20, ARC of Whatcom County.
