Lynden's Westside Building Supply will celebrate 50 years in business on Aug. 8 with a celebration and cake for customers.

Founded by Jake Bovenkamp in 1959, Westside is now one of the largest building suppliers in Whatcom County. Bernie and Jayson Bovenkamp, Jake's sons, now own the business.

Westside has diversified in recent years, now providing installed garage doors, insulation and cabinets to its traditional business of selling building materials to contractors and do-it-yourselfers. It also has a rental division. The business is located at 8353 Guide Meridian in Lynden.
