Western Washington University's College of Business and Economics will celebrate teaching, student learning and partnerships with business at its annual Teaching Scholarship Day on Friday, Oct. 23.

The day will begin at 7:30 a.m. at WWU's Wade King Student Recreation Center with a breakfast recognizing WWU alumni and winners of the Distinguished Executive Recognition Awards: Steve Staves, former president of Duracell (Sigma Iota Epsilon Management Honorary); and Horst-Otto Gerberding (Beta Gamma Sigma Business Honorary), president and CEO of Dragoco GmbH, one of the top 10 fragrance and flavor companies in the world.

From noon until 1:15 p.m., also in the Wade King Student Recreation Center, CBE will host a luncheon for the Distinguished Teaching Fellow Award recipient, WWU economics professor Yvonne Durham.

The keynote address, "Leadership," is scheduled to be given at the luncheon by state Attorney General Rob McKenna. Cost to attend the luncheon or the breakfast is $25; to register, contact Peggy Warner at (360) 650-2617 or Jacie DeLaruelle (360) 650-2902.

From 1:30 to 2:20 p.m. in WWU's Parks Hall, the CBE's Center for Excellence in Management Education will host three open forums led by WWU faculty, students, and industry- and education-sector professionals. There is no charge for the forums, and parking is free in the gravel lots. Forum topics are listed at www.cbe.wwu.edu/ceme.

The afternoon's capstone panel, "Leadership in Green Times: The Path to Sustainability," will be held from 2:30 to 3:20 p.m. in Parks Hall room 441. A reception after the conclusion of the capstone panel will conclude the day's events.

For more information on Teaching Scholarship Day, the panelists, moderators or award winners, contact Craig Tyran at (360) 650-2207 or go to cbe.wwu.edu/ceme.

The Center for Excellence in Management Education fosters excellence in management education through partnerships between business and the university.
