FIRST PLACE
THE CLIFF HOUSE RESTAURANT
Location: 331 N. State St., 734-8660, hours: 4:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. daily
Web site: www.bellinghamcliffhouse.com
From the boss: "Customers come in for specific chefs because they know how to cook their steak and salmon perfectly." Jonny Wilkerson, general manager
Reader rave: "I take my wife there for Valentine's Day." Rob Johannesen, Bellingham
Highlights: From its retro façade to flannel shirt-friendly dress code, the Cliff House is an easy-going place to enjoy sensational food with an equally sensational view. Its service lacks for naught - attentive servers including some who have worked there for 20 years, and a senior chef who has been marveling diners with gastronomic delights for more than 30. Set high on State Street like a tree house with an incredible bay vista, the restaurant is a cozy refuge from the frost, especially when you get your hands on the perennially popular whiskey crab bisque.
