Whatcom Educational Credit Union recently donated $9,750 to local non-profits.

The agencies that received donations for the first quarter were Bellingham Food Bank, Bellingham High School Band Boosters, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Boys & Girls Clubs of Whatcom County, Ferndale Food Bank, Friends of the North Fork Community Library, LAW Advocates, Marianne's House, Opportunity Council, Sun Community Service, The Jazz Project, WSU Whatcom County Master Gardener Program, Whatcom Land Trust, and Whatcom Volunteer Center.

WECU's Social Responsibility Committee oversees the donations and participation to volunteer projects. According to a company release, the committee will be focusing on humanitarian causes this year because of the downturn in the economy.

With more than 57,000 members, WECU is Whatcom County's largest membership-owned, not for profit financial cooperative in the area. For details about the credit union or the application process, visit WECU.com.
