BELLINGHAM - For those awaiting Barkley Village's latest restaurant opening, it will be a few weeks longer.
Scotty Browns Restaurant on the corner of Barkley Boulevard and Newmarket Street is having its opening delayed after the spill of a cleaning agent created cosmetic damage to some of the interior surfaces and equipment, said Hollie Johnson, dining room manager at Scotty Browns.
She estimates the grand opening will be during the first week of January at the latest; it had originally been scheduled for Tuesday, Dec. 2.
Johnson said they could have made the original opening date with the damage, but local franchise owner Rob Walker wanted to create a good first impression when unveiling it to the public.
"It's a gorgeous space and something new for Bellingham, so we didn't want to spoil it by opening before it met our standards," Johnson said.
The 5,400-square-foot restaurant will feature 17-foot-high ceilings and a fully heated deck. The menu will have a variety of items, including fish, burgers, sandwiches, steaks, yam fries and Asian dishes. It will be open for lunch and dinner, with brunch on the weekends. Johnson said the staff is in place, totaling around 100 people.
The restaurant is part of the Browns Social House chain, which has four restaurants in the Vancouver, B.C., metro area and is the company's first venture into the U.S. The restaurant chain recently won a silver medal in the Best Casual Restaurant Chain category for Vancouver Magazine.
Restaurant officials will announce a revised opening date on its Web site, scottybrownsrestaurant.com.
