Whatcom County bankruptcy filings lower in October

The number of local bankruptcy filings took a slight dip last month.

In October, there were 67 Whatcom County bankruptcy filings, according to the latest data from the U.S. Bankruptcy Court Western District office in Seattle. That's down from 73 in September. It also matches the number of filings in October 2008.

For the first 10 months of the year, there have been 674 local filings. That's almost 100 more than all of 2008, when there 579.

Skagit County's bankruptcy filings in October were 69, up from 51 in September. In the western district there were 1,333 filings last month, up from 1,237 in September.
