The Whatcom Heat, who took first place at a regional tournament last weekend in Kirkland, will travel to Fullerton, Calif., to play in the Pony West Zone Baseball Tournament.

The Heat will face off against teams from Utah, Arizona and Hawaii in the zone tournament, which begins Saturday, July 25 and wraps Tuesday, July 28. The Heat is attempting to advance to the Pony World Series in Chino, Calif..

At the regional tournament, the Heat beat Kirkland 10-8, Maple Valley Olympic 10-2, Lake Sammamish 8-4 and the Redmond Steelheads 9-3. That put them in the championship game against the Bellingham Stickmen, and the Heat managed to hold on for a 9-7 victory to advance to the zone tournament.

Team members include Brady Shearer, Cooper Clark, Jared Garcia, Josh Hosick, Anthony Fleck, Earl Johnson, Davis Phillips, Brady Bauthues, Andrew Littrell, Bailey Slaughter, Peter Pennylegion and Jake Plagerman, with coaches Mike Pennylegion and Brad Bauthues.

U-14 STICKMEN ADVANCE TO REGIONAL

On Thursday, July 23, the Stickmen, a 14-and-under team coached by Brandon Hundt amd Bruce Tipton, begins play at the Pony Baseball Regional Tournament in Kirkland. The Stickmen went 4-0 at the sectional championships last weekend in Edamclaw, Wash., outscoring their opponents 54-7.

The 13-and-under Stickmen team, coached by Josh Helderop and Jeremy Hirschkorn, wasn't so lucky regional tournament in Kirkland. The team made the championship game, but lost by two after rallying from a six run deficit to tie the game in the sixth inning.
