The Bellingham Bells split a doubleheader Wednesday, July 8, at Spokane, beating the RiverHawks 4-3 in the opener but falling 7-5 in the nightcap in West Coast League action. The Bells won eight consecutive games until the 7-5 loss.
"It was just one of those long days on the bus and then to play a doubleheader we kind of lost focus. But we scrapped a bit," Bells coach Brandon Newell said in a phone interview, "We did win eight in a row, so we're playing pretty well. We're finding ways to win."
In the opener, Jordan Stern (1-1) earned the win and Seth Harvey (6) earned the save.
"It was 4-3 and (Spokane) had a couple guys on," Newell said, "and Seth got it done."
J.D. Haver (1-2) took the loss in the late game.
No other information was available at press time.
Bellingham is at Spokane again for a 6:35 p.m. first pitch on Thursday, July 9, with the Bells' Luke Scott (2-0, 3.31 ERA) facing off with the RiverHawks' Mike Richard (2-2, 4.05 ERA).
