Former Lynden Christian boys' basketball standout Kyle Coston will be transferring to Trinity Western University in Langley, B.C., according to his father, Jeff Coston.
Kyle Coston, who helped the Lyncs to the Class 2A state championship in 2006, has spent his past three seasons at Portland State University, where he's helped the Vikings reach the NCAA Tournament each of the past two seasons as Big Sky Conference Tournament champions. The forward became a regular starter once the Big Sky schedule rolled around during the 2007-08 season and averaged 5.9 points and 2.9 rebounds as a sophomore. Those numbers grew to 6.2 points, 3.4 rebounds and 1.5 assists last season as a junior. He also was selected to the 2008 Big Sky All-Tournament team.
Coston is making the move to Canada after former Portland State coach Ken Bone announced that he was leaving the program to take the head coaching job at Washington State. Becoming a No. 1 scoring option and getting an extra year of eligibility after he sits out a season also factored into Coston's decision, according to his father.
