WHATCOM CONNECTIONS: Hodgin earns ESPN/CoSIDA honor

George Fox University triple jumper Emily Hodgin, a graduate of Squalicum High School, was named to the 2009 ESPN The Magazine/ CoSIDA Academic All-District VIII College Division Track & Field Women's Team, as chosen by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America.

Hodgin, a senior, was an Academic All-District honoree for the first time, making the Second Team after posting a 3.813 grade point average while earning a bachelor's of science in food and nutrition in business along with a bachelor's of art in business administration with a concentration in marketing.

She won the Northwest Conference championship and All-NWC honors in the triple jump this spring with a season's best mark of 36-5.75. She also took first place in the triple jump in the Pacific Luau and John Knight Twilight meets, was second in the Willamette Last Chance meet and came in third in the Linfield Icebreaker.

Hodgin also earned All-NWC honors in her sophomore and junior years as well, finishing third in the NWC Championships in the triple jump each of those times.
