Two local runners earned All-American distinction as the WCC cross country men and women each nabbed fourth-place finishes in team standings at the NWAACC championships in Battle Ground on Saturday, Nov. 8.
The Orcas' Laura Carlyle also took top honors in the women's race with a time of 18 minutes, 48 seconds. Lauren North finished seventh by crossing the finish line at Lewisville State Park in 19:46.
Both received All-American distinction by finishing in the top seven.
One runner on the WCC men's team, Cory Jenkins, earned All-American honors by finishing sixth with a time of 26:21.
WCC cross country coach Joel Pearson said his teams ran well despite missing a varsity runner from both the men's and women's squads.
Each squad finished fourth behind winner Spokane Community College, runner-up Everett Community College and third-place finisher Lane Community College.
Pearson also wasn't surprised by strong performances by Carlyle, North and Jenkins.
"I'm just glad they got what they deserved," Pearson said in a phone interview.
