After two straight rainouts, the Sehome boys' tennis team returned to the court and turned in a masterful performance, beating visiting Lynden 7-0 Friday, Sept. 26, in a Northwest Conference match.
None of the seven matches went three sets, as the Mariners (8-0, 3-0 NWC) dropped only three singles games and six games in doubles.
"It was a strong performance, top to bottom, for my guys," Sehome coach Bonna Giller said in a phone interview. "I think those two days of rain (Wednesday and Thursday) gave my guys a little bit of a break and a chance for their legs to recover. Before those rainouts, we had been going pretty much non-stop since the start of practice."
Will Topp and William Giller made use of the extra time off to score matching 6-0, 6-0 victories at No. 1 and No. 3 singles, respectively.
Dustin Koenig and Matt Goebel scored another impressive win at No. 1 doubles, topping Lynden's Andrew Blair and Briley Benner 6-2, 6-0. Blair and Benner won a non-conference meeting between the two doubles teams on Sept. 10.
"They beat us in three sets last time, and the guys have been thinking about that and were looking for a little revenge," Giller said. "They played a real solid match."
Sehome returns to action Monday at Burlington-Edison, while Lynden (2-6, 1-2) will host Bellingham.
